Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis is the biochemical process by which green plants, algae, and certain bacteria convert light energy — typically from the Sun — into chemical energy stored in glucose. The process takes place primarily in the chloroplasts of plant cells and is summarized by the equation:

6 CO₂ + 6 H₂O + light → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6 O₂

Two stages

Photosynthesis proceeds in two coupled stages. The light-dependent reactions occur in the , capturing photons to split water, generate ATP, and reduce NADP⁺ to . The light-independent reactions, also known as the , take place in the stroma and use ATP and to fix carbon dioxide into three-carbon sugars that are eventually assembled into glucose.

Variations

Most plants use the C3 pathway, but in hot, dry climates many species have evolved or pathways to minimize water loss and reduce photorespiration. These adaptations are critical to crops such as maize, sugarcane, and pineapple.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about ai flashcard maker.

There is no fixed limit. A 50-page textbook chapter typically produces 80–150 flashcards, and a 60-minute lecture generates 50–100 cards. Volume scales with content — upload more material, get more cards.

Thetawave generates term/definition, question/answer, fill-in-the-blank, and concept explanation cards. The AI automatically selects the best format for each concept — definitions get term cards, processes get sequencing cards.

Research shows that the review process drives retention, not card creation (Karpicke, 2011). AI-generated flashcards let you spend more time on clinical review or problem-solving and less on the manual creation step.

Yes — paste a YouTube URL and Thetawave extracts the content via YouTube to Notes, identifies key concepts, and generates flashcards in one step. No need to take notes first.
